Phil Herbert, Registered Operating Nurse (RN), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)
Phil is Dr Pope’s main scrub team nurse at the Mater Hospital and with 8 years experience behind him assists Dr Pope in giving the best care possible to his patients.
Phil completed his nursing through Avondale College and Sydney Adventist Hospital in 2001.
He stayed working at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) for a year and a half before moving to Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) to further his studies in his chosen area of peri-operative nursing.
It was during that year of study that he became interested in Neurosurgery and further specialized in this area. Phil stayed on at RNSH after the course and soon became a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Neurosurgery.
After meeting his future wife, he decided to take a year off and broaden his horizons by traveling around the world with her. During this year Phil worked for 3 months in Ireland helping to set up Neurosurgery at the newly opened Hermitage Clinic. Upon his return to Sydney, Phil returned to his position as a CNS in Neurosurgery at RNSH.
In 2009 Phil started at the Mater part time where he became the Neurosurgical CNS and being Dr Pope’s main scrub nurse, teaches and educates other high caliber nurses in the specialty of Neurosurgery. |
